Having shipped chips with 32-nanometer features in volume since 2009, Intel has a two-year lead on the rest of the semiconductor industry, which is just now ramping up 32nm device production, according to Mike Bryant of Future Horizons. While silicon foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is issuing 28nm IC design kits, ahead of production next year, the world's largest chipmaker is pressing ahead on production of its 22nm models later this year, Bryant noted.
