Report: Value of PET in malignant melanoma cannot be assessed yet

A report published by the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care concluded that the value of PET and PET/CT in diagnosing malignant melanoma cannot be determined because of a lack of meaningful studies. A search of international scientific literature for studies that explore the effect of PET or PET/CT on the health of patients did not turn up any relevant studies, according to the report. Seventeen diagnostic accuracy studies were discovered, but the diagnostic accuracy of the methods differed significantly in those studies, the report also found.
