Analysis: SEC takes tough stance on big cases

The same day that the Securities and Exchange Commission voted to pursue action against SAC Capital Advisors founder Steven Cohen, SEC head Mary Jo White also rejected an $18 million settlement with Harbinger Capital Partners founder Philip Falcone and accused Miami of misleading investors about municipal bonds. "This makes plain that Mary Jo White is taking an aggressive approach in going after high-profile matters," said former SEC lawyer Steve Crimmins, now of K&L Gates. "It shows that White and her team will not be afraid to take tough matters into litigation."
