Apple's tricky problem: When carriers don't sell enough iPhones

Verizon Wireless sold more than 3.75 million iPhones in the second quarter, a big number but not enough to meet the carrier's $23.5 billion commitment to the brand as laid out in its 2010 agreement with Apple, according to government filings unearthed by analyst Craig Moffett. "Apple will undoubtedly get pressure from its shareholders to realize the value that it is due," he said. Global carriers with similar issues will also be monitoring their negotiations to see how much the iPhone maker can enforce such deals, Moffett added.
