Calif. educators prepare for common core math

Teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District worked together recently to brainstorm teaching strategies to help students learn Common Core State Standards for Math, which will require students to solve more rigorous problems and work collaboratively with peers. Schools across Southern California are preparing to implement the standards. "There's a range in terms of preparation -- some are advanced, and others are just starting to think about it," said Kathryn Edwards, head of curriculum and assessment for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. "For some, technology will be the major challenge," she added.
