Japanese shares plunge ahead of vote

Pre-election jitters took a large toll in Japanese stocks Friday, while other Asian markets were generally lower as concerns over China's growth continued to be a factor. The Nikkei plunged 1.48% to 14,589.91, the Hang Seng edged up 0.08% to 21,362.42, the Kospi lost 0.22% to 1,871.41 and the S&P/ASX was down 0.43% to 4,972.10.
