Data: Businesses lose about $150B a year to grid outages

The U.S. power infrastructure is more susceptible to outages than any comparable developed nation's, according to a Department of Energy and North American Electric Reliability Corp. assessment, which found the national grid fails nearly three times as often as it did in 1984. Regulators blame the poor performance on a double-digit increase in demand over the past decade and a lack of investment in infrastructure modernization.
