S.D. university tests Pierre Shale behavior on energy uses

Researchers from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology are conducting tests this summer on how the Pierre Shale will react to various energy uses, such as hydraulic fracturing and storing oil and natural gas in underground shale caverns. "We're trying to understand how this shale deforms," said research scientist Bill Roggenthen.
