Wash. district official pleased with results of shift to healthier meals

Kira Acker, district nutrition services and warehouse manager in a Washington state school district, said service of paid meals has increased in high schools since the transition to healthier meals. The changes have included buying from local farmers, installing digital menu boards and focusing on nutrition education. She said the district is forming a wellness council that will develop policies that meet U.S. Department of Agriculture standards.
