Defense companies post strong gains in second quarter

Defense companies General Dynamics, Honeywell and United Technologies reported strong earnings in the second quarter and raised their full-year profit forecasts. Strong defense spending, an improvement in the commercial aircraft business and good returns on the companies' diversified businesses were responsible for the profit reports.
