The new European platform Turquoise backed down from plans to beat its rivals by opening 15 minutes early after the London Stock Exchange and Deutsche Borse threatened to open early as well. The idea of getting a jump on the competition is nothing new, but exchanges worldwide have learned that trading equities is a group effort and that the idea of trading shares 24 hours a day is still a dream.
