Holmes: Aid projects face major budget shortfalls

United Nations aid projects will be hampered by a $4.8 billion funding gap this year as the global recession simultaneously increases need and stresses donors, UN Emergency Relief coordinator John Holmes warned. Areas suffering protracted crises such as Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan, and flash-point locations such as Pakistan, are projected to see needs outpace available funds into 2010.
