Index suggests construction decline has not hit bottom

The Architecture Billings Index declined more than 5 points in June to 37.7, indicating the downturn in construction spending may not have hit a bottom, according to the AIA. A reading below 50 indicates a contraction in design services. Some architectural firms are concerned that the downturn in the industry could extend into next year, experts say.
