Treasury proposes increased disclosure for rating agencies

The Treasury sent proposed legislation to Congress regarding its plan for credit rating agencies. The proposal includes rules on disclosure and aims to reduce conflicts of interest within the rating-agency industry. However, it does not require the agencies to overhaul their business models. Under the proposal, the Securities and Exchange Commission would get more regulatory authority over the agencies.
