Automated warehouses require sophisticated maintenance

Building maintenance in a highly automated warehouse requires much more careful planning than does a manually operated warehouse, where equipment purchases and maintenance plans can be handled ad hoc, Steve Banker writes. At automated warehouses, the scheduling of maintenance must happen in a way that causes minimal disruptions to normal operations, always with an eye on return on assets and overall equipment effectiveness, he notes.
