If Detroit's bankruptcy goes through, it will be the largest in U.S. history, with more than $18 billion in outstanding liabilities. It will join other mammoth-sized municipal bankruptcies, including Stockton, Calif., at $700 million; San Bernardino, Calif., at $1 billion; and Orange County, Calif., at $1.7 billion.
