Monsanto to withdraw pending EU applications for GM crops

U.S.-based Monsanto plans to withdraw most of its pending applications for GM crop development in Europe on disappointing commercial prospects. The company will instead concentrate on conventionally breeding new crops for that region. Applications to be withdrawn cover five types of corn, one soybean and one sugar beet.
