S.C. Medicaid seeks to reimburse RDs for obesity counseling

South Carolina's Medicaid program introduced a proposal to reimburse registered dietitians who counsel obese patients. Medical University of South Carolina dietitian Nina Crowley said insurance companies realize that counseling by RDs is less costly and more effective than physician intervention. The state's plan must be approved by the federal government.
