Survey considers costs, benefits of propofol for colonoscopy

A survey of gastroenterologists and endoscopy nurses found most prefer deep sedation with propofol for a screening colonoscopy, but most were willing to pay only $200 of the $500 usually charged to patients for it. Doctors should discuss both the costs and the benefits of propofol sedation with their patients before a colonoscopy, one of the researchers said.
