White House makes offer on highway bill

President Bush and House Republican leaders have agreed to a $299 billion highway bill that totals $284 billion in guaranteed spending, but committee leader Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Tulsa, says he believes the Senate won't be ready to accept the House offer before the summer recess. Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, told Inhofe the offer "is not what I want and what you want, but I think we need to look at reality."
