High cost prompts Navy to terminate new destroyer program

The Navy will end its new destroyer program after the first two vessels are built. The DDG-1000 Zumwalt destroyer is too expensive for the Navy to achieve its goal of a 313-ship fleet, officials said. General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman are each building one of the ships.
