Study: Nursing homes lack flu pandemic response plans

U.S. nursing homes are not ready to deal with a pandemic influenza event and the accompanying patient overflow from hospitals, according to a study that looked at more than 400 facilities in Michigan and Nebraska. The study shows only 23% of nursing homes had a specific plan to deal with a widespread flu outbreak, 23% had a pandemic response plan as part of an overall disaster plan and 52% had no plan.
