HIT panel OKs tiger team's proposals to strengthen HIE privacy

A set of recommendations devised by ONC's tiger team to boost privacy protection will let patients opt in or opt out of data exchanges when factors trigger the need for their consent. "Ultimately, with health information exchange of electronic health records, we need to earn the trust of consumers and physicians that it is occurring correctly," the tiger team's co-chairman said. The Health IT Policy Committee approved the proposals Tuesday.
