Need for electricity drives soaring global demand for coal

Coal consumption to produce electricity is expanding at a phenomenal rate worldwide, and the International Energy Agency projected that demand will keep growing rapidly for at least the next 20 years. Carbon capture and storage technology might solve the problem of greenhouse-gas emissions, according to Der Spiegel, but they create another one -- a location for the captured gas, which can be dangerous in high concentration.
