President Barack Obama signed legislation to provide extended unemployment benefits for 2.5 million people and used the occasion to urge swift congressional approval of the Small Business Jobs Act, which would help small businesses expand and create employment. "Small businesses are the engine of job growth, and measures to cut their taxes and make lending available should not be held hostage to partisan tactics like those that unconscionably held up unemployment insurance," Obama said.
