A top TSA official says the air cargo industry is ramping up quickly to meet an Aug. 1 deadline for screening 100% of cargo on U.S. passenger flights. "We've seen an increase (in participation) at all levels," says Douglas Brittin, TSA's air cargo manager. Some 850 screening operations already have been certified by the TSA, Brittin notes, while another 100 may complete the certification process by Aug. 1. "From what we are seeing, the airlines are pretty well prepared" for the deadline, he says.
