Australia could become a major oil exporter if it put more resources into developing algae as a source of fuel, according to researchers at the University of Queensland. "If we devoted just 1 per cent of our land mass to algae farming, we could theoretically produce five times more oil than we currently consume," said Evan Stephens, manager of the university's Solar Biofuels Research Center.
