Blood pressure increases in children due to excessive sodium

A recent study finds that blood pressure rates among children are rising -- a trend being attributed to over-consumption of sodium, obesity and other factors. The findings come as the U.S. Department of Agriculture has released new guidelines for sodium content, calories and other ingredients in snacks and vending-machine foods offered in schools. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also is offering schools some tips on how they can reduce sodium levels in their meals.
