When it comes to profit margin and quality of credit, Canadian supermarkets are outpacing U.S. and European counterparts, according to Moody's Investors Service. U.S. grocers, operating within a more competitive market compared with Canadian stores, have seen strong same-store growth but have a flatter profit margin, while European supermarkets struggle with lower earnings.
