Commentary: Killing activists won't kill activism in Africa

Neela Ghoshal, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch, writes about working with Cameroonian LGBT activist Eric Ohena Lembembe, who was killed last week. Describing a meeting with police, Ghoshal said that as a foreigner her concerns were laughed off, but that the authorities paid attention to Lembembe, who said to them, "I am Cameroonian, like you." "Lembembe's brand of activism was beginning to shake things up in Cameroon," writes Ghoshal.
