Wireless carriers praised the U.S. Department of Defense's offer to relocate spectrum in the 1755 to 1780 MHz bands so that the government can sell the frequencies in the next spectrum auction. "I took it as a very positive step. Getting them to put something in writing gives us now something to work from," said Jot Carpenter, vice president for government affairs at CTIA-The Wireless Association®. There is a possible hitch: The Pentagon wants to move some of the frequencies to a band also held by broadcasters who expressed skepticism about the plan.
