Endoscopes that avoid the need for invasive surgery to diagnose medical conditions typically run about $50,000, but San Francisco-based EvoTech has produced a model nearly as capable that costs $2,500. Designing the instrument, company co-founder Moshe Zilversmit started from the premise that opting for different design choices and eliminating unnecessary features could yield enormous savings.
