N.C. biofuels center to close over lack of state funding

The Biofuels Center of North Carolina will close its doors in a matter of weeks after the legislature passed a plan to eliminate the center's $2 million annual budget. Although the center is a nonprofit corporation, its funds have come mainly from the state, said spokesman Wil Glenn. The proposed state budget would set aside funds for biofuels research at the state Agriculture Department, said Anne Tazewell of the Clean Transportation Program at the North Carolina Solar Center.
