Officials: Tornadoes prompt Okla. to better prepare for disasters

The storms and tornadoes that struck Oklahoma in May served as a lesson for the state to better prepare for catastrophes, according to officials. "After the May 3, 1999, tornado and the other storms that have hit the state, there wasn't much of a call to add tornado shelters. ... Now, we're seeing a huge push to fund the construction of safe rooms and safe areas in schools," said state Rep. Joe Dorman.
