Study examines outcomes of post-op telephone checkups

Post-operative telephone checkups saved patients and doctors time and money without compromising patient care in a preliminary study of patients who had routine hernia repairs or gallbladder surgeries. Most patients in the study said they were satisfied with the telephone checkups, researchers reported in JAMA Surgery. Telephone checkups are not appropriate in cases that require discussions of continuing care or treatment, researchers caution.
