ACC: Recommendation to ban 5 phthalates in children's products is based on "flawed process"

A recommendation from a Consumer Product Safety Commission advisory panel to ban five phthalates in children's products is based on a "flawed process," said the American Chemistry Council. CPSC failed to follow Office of Management and Budget guidelines that "ensure the integrity of the peer review process," it added. ACC President Cal Dooley noted that a new rule "will have a significant impact on the commercial marketplace" and "should not rely on unproven, novel and newly formulated scientific approaches, unless they have been appropriately peer reviewed."
