EU to continue funding embryonic stem cell research, with limits

The European Union agreed to bar funds from its $64 billion research budget for human reproductive cloning but will continue to fund other work relying on embryonic stem cells. Member states turned back an effort by Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Slovakia to bar any research use of embryos but agreed to limit support only to embryos that otherwise would be discarded.
