Private capital from private insurers, not taxpayer dollars, should cover property risks in Florida, writes Florida State Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland, in the Palm Beach Post. Ross says the state should invest more funds in preventing damage from hurricanes. "The more we can do to prevent damage to our homes, the less we will have to pay to insure against the dangers of hurricanes," Ross writes. "We must assume the responsibility of protecting our property."
