Commentary: Private equity's next target could be private equity

Slate columnist Daniel Gross speculates in a Newsweek commentary that private-equity firm Blackstone, which went public last month, may be a good target for a private-equity takeover. Blackstone has all the hallmarks of a private-equity takeover target, including a declining stock price, a strong underlying business with healthy margins, a valuable brand and a high cash-to-debt ratio. "Blackstone's partners could essentially pay themselves for advising themselves to take Blackstone private," Gross wrote.
