Mobile carriers turn to several new technologies

A number of mobile carriers have begun looking toward 3G Long Term Evolution, xMax and Mobile WiMAX to help transform the mobile-broadband landscape. "European carriers' dependence on voice to increase [average revenue per user] can no longer be a driving factor, given the prevailing saturated market and various alternatives such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and reduced local and roaming call charges due to regulatory policies," Frost & Sullivan's Luke Thomas said.
