Study: Childhood obesity may coincide with safety-net status

Combating stress in low-income families through programs such as food stamps may also help curb childhood obesity, a study in Obesity Reviews suggests. "We've found ... that stress is a leading cause of obesity among children. So if there's any way we can reduce stressors from a policy standpoint, that will also have the effect of reducing obesity," researcher Craig Gundersen says.
