Android tablets take half of world sales as Google Play apps pass Apple

About half of all tablet devices sold worldwide are based on Google's Android operating system, according to Android and Chrome head Sundar Pichai. The company has crossed the 70 million tablet activations milestone as well, Devindra Hardawar writes. In addition, the number of applications downloaded from Google Play has risen from 48 billion during the I/O 2013 conference in mid-May to 50 billion, and the 1 million apps available at the store today surpasses Apple's 900,000, Chris Welch writes.
