Farmers tackle food waste on Facebook, Twitter

Farmers are using social media to find last-minute buyers for leftovers from farmers markets, helping to ensure that less food is wasted. What began as a Facebook- and Twitter-driven strategy has spawned its own website, CropMobster.com, to help hunger-relief workers and others connect with farmers who have surplus produce. "The way the technology can enable this more organic solution is really powerful," says Dana Gunders of the National Resources Defense Council.
