IBM says it's joining forces with Pivotal to offer the latter's Cloud Foundry technology for writing software that runs in a cloud environment. Industry watchers view it as direct competition to Amazon and Google's cloud services and as a savvy business move given that more enterprises are using the cloud. Pivotal believes its technology could be a cloud operating system, although industry experts say the cloud is still in its infancy. IBM also is debuting a cheaper mainframe, zEnterprise BC12, built for cloud and mobile computing and data analytics.
