Ill. public schools to put more fresh produce on the menu

In Illinois, 239 public schools will implement the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, which encourages education about and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables by providing free fruit and vegetables throughout the day, in addition to during regular school meals. A study released in March by the Agriculture Department showed that students in participating schools are eating more fruits and vegetables.
