Researchers create fish oil compound for neuropathic pain relief

A docosahexaenoic acid derivative found in fish oil supplements may offer a way to treat and prevent neuropathic pain related to injuries to the sensory system, researchers reported in the Annals of Neurology. The compound NPD1=PD1 is found by white blood cells in response to external stimuli and inhibits signaling molecules that bring inflammatory macrophages to nerve cells.
