Rising rates, stocks help close pension liability gap

Rising interest rates, discount rates and stock valuations have helped to close the level of underfunded pension liabilities by 40% in 2013. Many are close to fully funded status. Boeing, IBM, Ford Motor and General Electric are among the companies that are set to grow their funding by more than $5 billion at year-end, according to a study by ISI Group.
