Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said at a Senate hearing Tuesday that they hope to eliminate patent settlements between brand-name drugmakers and manufacturers of generic drugs. Grassley and Klobuchar's measure would make patent settlements unlawful unless drugmakers can show they are not anti-competitive. Klobuchar said "it's simply outrageous that consumers are forced to pay higher prices for critical drugs because of brand companies colluding with generic competitors."
