Student's essay on transgender rights wins newspaper contest

A teen who is transgender has won one of the New York Times' weekly Summer Reading Contests with an essay in which she shared what school was like for her and supporting the rights of a 6-year-old transgender student from Colorado. The judges praised the writer, identified only as Lily, for her writing skill, use of vocabulary as well as her courage and advocacy.
