What should a brain theory look like?

Neither the Human Brain Project nor the BRAIN Initiative has focused enough on determining what a good theory of the brain should look like, and until such a theory is developed, researchers will not be sure what they are looking for, writes New York University psychology professor Gary Marcus. "The success of both the Human Brain Project and the Brain Initiative will ultimately rest not just on the data to be collected but also on what can be done with those data once they are collected," Marcus writes. To achieve that goal, the research must span the gap between neuroscience and psychology, he writes.
